Gazette Update

There have been some changes regarding the movement of Over-Dimensional Load (ODL) vehicles across at-grade railways and tramways in Victoria. The main change is that a gazette has been created to specify a new width requirement for railway crossings. The allowable width has been increased to 5 metres which means vehicles now only require a rail permit to cross railways if they exceed this value. This change came into effect on 1 December 2020. Please note that this new width only applies to railway crossings.

There have also been some changes made to simplify the payment process for ODL rail permits. These permits can now be paid by credit card rather than being invoiced and there is now a single point of contact for rail permits to cross tracks operated by MTM or Yarra trams.

Further information can be found in the ODL permit fact sheet: https://transport.vic.gov.au/-/media/tfv-documents/odl-rail-permits-fact-sheet.pdf?la=en&hash=582C343C4F378E9FC27523B7F9569A80
